NEVER A MISTRESS, NO LONGER A MAID by Maureen Driscoll

4.5 stars!!
have just some off a reading bender for this book, so I will wait to write a review when I am sure it will be more coherent.
Book Description:
Caught behind enemy lines at the Battle of Waterloo, nurse Jane Wetherby is forced to seek shelter with British operative Lord Edward Kellington. After a night of passion, the two are separated. With nothing but the alias Jane used to protect her family, Lord Edward is unable to find the woman he can't forget.

Seven years later, Jane courts scandal by serving as the unofficial surgeon in the village of Marston Vale. When Edward arrives to formalize his betrothal to a viscount's daughter in accordance with his late father's wishes, Jane has no choice but to watch the match proceed. When a threat from the past emerges, Jane must join forces with Edward to safeguard her loved ones. But at what risk to her heart...

Here we go!!!
5 things I loved about this book

5.  It is a Regency Historical Romance Novel, which means it is full of low cut dresses, and men wearing suits.  All those buttons and ties do it for me every time.
4.  Snarky, smart, and sassy leading ladies.  Jane is a true "blue stocking" that doesn't take any stuff from anyone.

3.  Holy sex scenes batman.  One Amazon reviewer called it "pornography", I call it great fun.  It is all written well, and doesn't overpower the book.  There is just the right mix of funny conversation, plot, and steam.  I swooned several times.

2.  A family of unbelievably good looking siblings.  I mean really, how many good looking, smart, and talented people can all be from one family.  Kind of reminds me of the Mannings (Peyton and Eli) and the Hemsworths (Liam and Chris)

1.  A few characters you love to hate.  What is a good love Regency without some girl trying to be caught in a compromising situation to trap a man.

Finally finding a book I wanted to stay up all night to read because it was worth being a Zombie the whole next day!!!
I was the 3695th resident all day.

Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha

Beyond Shame (Beyond, #1)Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha

DNF
Hmmmmmmmm....I am not going to give this one a star rating, because it was my own fault for trying to read it before knowing what it was about.  I figured out that some things are even too out there for even me.
Once again when I have to get a white board out to try and figure out who is putting what, where, I'm in over my head.
I enjoyed the writing, and the characters, but it just wasn't my thing.

Rule by Jay Crownover

Rule (Rule, #1)Rule by Jay Crownover
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am really glad I waited for the nice and fixed version of this book.  I had heard great things about, but people seemed really annoyed that it was poorly edited.  This version had no problems that I could see.

Rule is your quintesencial tattooed, asshole, player, bad boy....you know the ones we always fall in love with.
Shaw is your uncommon rich girl with family issues in love with aforementioned bad boy.
Unlike most of the stories with these characters, it didn't follow the same formula.  It was a nice and easy read without too much angst to drive you nuts.  It also has one of my favorite quotes froma a book ever.

"I'm not giving you his number because he's mine and if you get anywhere near him I swear to God the things I do to you will be chronicled on Investigation Discovery for years to come" Shaw

I gave her a fictional character high five!

Hector by Elizabeth Reyes

2 Stars (and I'm being generous)

Oh where to start..........

I loved all the other books, but this one was a train wreck.  I didn't want to look, but I had to see where she was going with it.  I liked Hector, but he fell victim to the ever present, as of late, magic vagina.  He fell victim to it before he even had it.  I feel like if you are going to be a bad ass, player, boxer, you should stick to the character a little better.

1. I physically did a face plant when he joined the chess team, and became a walk on for the US Chess team.
2. Porn/sex toy addicted virgin?
3. heart shaped shaving.
4. The story had complete randomness.
5. Cringe worthy sex scenes.....and I have read a lot of strange things.

Destined to Change Release Day!!

The day has come.....a little early. Lisa Harley has released her first novel a day early. I am so excited for her, and to you who get to read it. I hope you all fall in love with the characters as much as I did.
Here is a little tease of the amazingness!!

The First Kiss

"I honestly don’t remember a time that Declan and I weren’t together. Every picture of me from when I was little had Declan in it. We spent all of our time together at school and after school. We loved to go to the pond on my family’s farm and just play. He loved to tease me with frogs, snakes, or whatever he could find to make me scream. That was actually how I got my first kiss. I was ten years old, so Declan was eleven. He had just caused me to release a blood curdling scream when he threw a huge frog at me! I was freaking out and he came over and that’s when he did it. He hugged me. It wasn’t like he hadn’t before, but this time was different. When he pulled away he gave me a little peck on the lips, and then, I was pretty sure he was going to start screaming. The look on his face was horrific. He looked scared to death. I didn’t know what to do, so I did what any good country girl would do…I stomped on his foot and ran all the way back to my house."

Lisa is also doing a giveaway for the event.....so you have another chance to win her book!!

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Three things run through my mind at this very moment…
ONE, my life as I once knew it will never be the same.
TWO, the person I’m in love with might not even exist.
THREE, the deception that has unfolded before me has the power of life and death.

Sixteen year old, Breanna Davis, has heard the saying; life isn’t always what it seems…well, that saying rings true now more than ever. As horrifying visions appear before her, revealing tragedies that will forever change the fate of those she loves, she realizes that she may be the only person who can stop them from becoming reality. Amongst the chaos of this new discovery, Bre is faced with a stranger, Eve, who moves in on Bre’s friends and begins to follow her every move. As Eve’s true motives begin to surface, Bre must fight against, not only the visions, but the dangers Eve holds close. There is another secret kept- Collin, a boy held captive in Bre’s dreams, the boy she is secretly falling in love with but isn’t sure he even exists. As she tries to make it work with Austin, an old friend who could possibly be more, Bre battles against her feelings for Collin. Bre is faced with an almost impossible decision, to choose her life or follow her destiny. If she doesn’t intercede, people will certainly die. If she does, her own life could be at stake. In the end, if she fails, she’ll lose everything.

Reading Now

Up next on my TBR!!

Update 1/25: I am on chapter 5, and I can't put it down.  This book is hilarious.

Shark Bait (Grab Your Pole #1)Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 had me laughing my ass off stars!

My favorite guilty pleasures of all time are YA romances, and cheesy 80's movies and music. This book manages to take all of these things, and roll them all into one. Camie is Awesome...in that totally, bodacious, 16 candles way. You find yourself laughing and cheering her on all at the same time.
And Jake Ryan.....I mean Tristan, swoon!!
To top it all off her sister is an evil genius, with devious tendencies. I love her, and want to see a story about her.
The story line was fast paced, and believable, and made me sigh on several occasions.

While it was said to be New Adult, I think it would fit as a more mature YA. There is some heavy petting, drug use (just pot), and underage drinking....but that's it. The vocabulary used advanced for most high school kids, but still appropriate for the age group.

And once again......I love this book! For real, it rocked. Just wanted to make that clear.

Cover Reveal

If you fill out the information box at the bottom, you will get info on releases, and some will be chosen to receive free or discounted books.  Thanks for playing, this amazing cover was done at Immortal Ink!

You have not attended a Demonstration this month.
In Sola’s city, everyone obeys the rules. Stay away from the trigger cameras and regularly update your Debtbook, and you just might survive. But having to watch the way criminals are dealt with—murdered by Demonstrators in the Stadium—is a law Sola tries to avoid. When a charming Demonstrator kisses her at a party, however, she’s thrust into the Stadium and forced into the very role she despises.
Armed with only natural resourcefulness and a caring nature, Sola narrowly survives her first bout. Her small success means she’s whisked off to a training camp, where she discovers a world beyond the trigger cameras and monitoring—a world where falling in love with a killer doesn’t seem so terrible.
Yet life as a Demonstrator has no peace. Sola must train her way through twenty-five more Demonstrations before she can return home to her father. At the end of each battle, only one survivor remains.
Sola could face anyone in the Stadium . . . even a loved one.

Code Red by Amy Noelle

I am about half way through this one right now, and it is pretty funny.  This writer reminds me a lot of RL Mathewson in her writing style and love of baseball.  If it keeps on track, it will be a 4-4.5 read.

Udate 1/24

Code RedCode Red by Amy Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Did you have that group of girls in college that you shared everything with, even heartbreak?  This is a story about the last hold out in the "I'll never fall in love again" club.  She meets the oh so dreamy Josh, who is too good to be true and  calls a "code red".  Her friends are supposed to jump to her rescue....they totally bail and make her date.
I think I liked this book so much becuase it reminded me of something me and my friends would do.  I totally identify with Nicole, like in we were seperated at birth, except for the cats.  I have a chihuahua, which is almost like a cat in loyalty.  She's snarky, funny, and has lots of embarrassingly funny times.
This book is not overly long, so if you are looking for something to read in one night, this is your pick.

Reaper's Property

Reaper's PropertyReaper's Property by Joanna Wylde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5

I would say this is a mix up of Kristen Ashley's Motorcycle Man, and Undeniable. It is not as raw as Undeniable, but way more use of the C-word than you find in an Ashley book.
I found myself hooked to it. There was lots of action, and smexy times, to keep you entertained. The anal fetish of the anti-hero was a little offputting, but I perservered. I see a sequel in the future for some of the other characters. I will be picking it up.
