Falling for Bentley Teaser

Just when Bentley Knight thought life was only about football and women, a Hail Mary pass comes at him, changing everything.

Bentley returns home after his father is badly injured and can no longer maintain the family farm, leaving behind a promising college football career. Forced to grow up faster than he wants, Bentley struggles with the responsibility of being a good example to his younger brother, on and off the football field, and pleasing his frustrated, demanding father. Just when he reaches his limit of complications, in walks a beautiful blond angel, endangering the delicate balance he’s finally found in his new life.

When mistakes of his past threaten to derail his future, will Bentley be man enough win the heart of the girl he once ridiculed in high school, who just happens to be the woman of his dreams?

One eye barely open, I glanced around the room, desperate for it to stop spinning. There’s a faint moan beside me, and when I carefully turned my head towards it, I saw brunette hair splayed across the pillow and down the back of a naked chick. My eyes slowly move down to the small of her back—my favorite part of a woman’s body.

I stopped when I recognized the Celtic tattoo and quickly lifted the sheet to see if I had my briefs on, I did. I slowly sat up to look for any evidence of last night’s shit show. No condom…no wrapper, thank God. Lube and a vibrator? What the hell?

“What are you doing?” giggled Amanda as her cold claws rubbed my back. I tried to straighten out of her grip. “Baby relax, let’s finish what we started last night,” She whispered in my ear before kissing the side of my neck.
“Did we?”
“No, you passed out before the party really got started. I had to use my vibrator to finish the job.”
“Uh, sorry about that.” I pulled her hands off me.
“Why don’t you make it up to me, Bentley? Like the good ol’ days, back in high school. I miss this.” she growled, grabbing my dick.

I shot out of the bed and scrambled for my pants.
“Where are you going?” Amanda grabbed my shirt and threw it over herself.
“I...ah…I need to go.” I stuttered, trying to put my shoes on without falling flat on my face.
“Bentley.” Amanda whined, throwing my shirt at me.

Bang-Bang-Bang, “Bentley get your ass up. We gotta go.” Curtis yelled.
“Thank Christ.” I mumbled under my breath as I pulled my shirt over my head.

“That’s it? You’re going to leave me like this, wet and wanting you? Needing you to fill me?” moaned Amanda.
“Sorry, Amanda, but I gotta go. Curtis and I already made plans.” I opened the door and looked at my best friend.
“Bentley Knight before you walk out that door, you better think long and hard. There will not be a third time.”
“There shouldn’t have been a second,” I toss over my shoulder and ducked just in time to miss a glass as it shattered on the wall in front of me. I closed the door and looked over to Curtis, laughing his ass off. “Let’s get the fuck out of here.”

Twofer Thursday

Since I have had so much time to read due to being trapped inside because of the snow, I had the pleasure of reading two really good motorcycle books.

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart—and her virginity—to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.
She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious—her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands—with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club—to give them a better life.
Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way…

4 Stars
As with the first in the series, Reaper's Property, this one did not disappoint.  there was all of the rough rugged biker fun, with a bit of a soft side.  You know how in all of our wildest dreams the bad boy gets tamed by the girl he can't live without.  It's kind of like that, but with one hell of a ride along the way.  Ruger is one sexy alpha, but Sophie is no pushover, and you know how I love my feisty women.  Well worth the read if you're looking for a biker romance to heat up your nights.
I can not wait for the next one, and I know who it's going to be about. Em might actually get some.

He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widow, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.
After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly... even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.
And the last thing they ever expected was each other.
But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.
… she should have chosen the strip club.

3.5 Stars
This book had less to do with the biker aspect, and more with the tattoo shop angle.  If you ask me, best of both worlds.  I swooned, laughed, and panted an equal amount of time reading this one.  It is a little longer than I am used to, and the reason it lost some stars was because it was a little long winded and repetitive in sections.
I enjoyed all the characters and felt the primary ones were developed perfectly.  A little badass, while being a little vulnerable.  I could have used a little more with some of the secondary characters, but then the book might have turned into an epic.
Even with being a little rough around the edges, I am glad I took the time to read it and fall in love with the characters.  I will definitely be following this author.

Cherished by Kelly Elliot

1 Star (and I am being generous)

This review will contain many spoilers, so if you are going to try and read it, be warned.

Lets start at the beginning of the problems with this book...
1. The cover.  I have never a more poorly photo-shopped hot mess in a long time.  I may not like all of Mrs. Elliot's books, but some of them had some kick ass covers. This looks like a daytime shot with a freaky zombie apocalypse moon glued to the background.

2. I won't bother with writing a synopsis of the book here, if you have read the first book, it has the same plot, or lack of plot, so you get the gist of the story. Boy meets girl....boy is an idiot....girl runs away meets another boy....first boy wins her back because she is SPOILER ALERT: knocked up.

3. Weakest female characters on the planet.  What kind of doormat lets some guy walk up and kiss her, claim to fall in love with her, and then run off to sleep/get engaged to the town skank, then take him back when he's done with her.  Not only that she has dreamed of opening a vet clinic her whole life.  She thinks her boyfriend has cheated on her so she bails on that idea and leaves town?  It also apparently the 1920's because she keeps all the money needed to buy said vet clinic in a box in her closet.  I guess there are no banks, safety deposit box, or rusty old safe anywhere in town.

4. Weak, crying in their beer, "cowboys".  Scott is a crying, whimpering, baby for most of the book.  Poor me, why did she leave me, I should kill myself (which unfortunately doesn't do), I can't live without her......ect.  Then the next minute he's like "I'll just drink and try to have sex with as many people as possible, but not actually succeed". It's just sad, the anti-alpha male.

In a two week time span these two "hopelessly in love" people have forgotten each other and gone on an all out snogfest with anything that will talk to them for more than a minute.  So she was torn up enough to give up on her dream to own vet clinic, but not quite heartbroken enough to resist the advances of the first man you says hello. *smacks head with iPad repeatedly*

5. Do I really have to relive the sex life of everyone ever in the Wanted series, including the grandparents.  Dealing with one couple is enough, four more couples is just a reason to add sex scenes. Just stop.

6. The amount of use of the F-bomb.  I am down for foul language when the dialog calls for it, but Holy Hell and Jesus H. Christ batman, add some words to your vocabulary.

7. It's about 200 pages too long.  felt like I had been reading forever, and when I looked down I was at 10%. If the book had just ended at 30% it could have been salvaged as a decent book, but no, it has to continue on forever.  Not to mention if more time was given to actually writing a story with a decent plot, instead of churning out useless drivel for the masses every two months the series would be good.

In the end, if you read the first book, you have read all of them.  They all have the same plot, weak characters, lack of imagination.

10 Things I Hate About Sex (Scenes)

dude on a horse jumping into the water with a woman falling off the side of the horse. I think that's what is going on. Could also be levitation of all three by mysterious forces.

I did not learn about sex from romance novels, thank God, but I know a lot of women who (at least partially) did. I was fortunate enough to have a mother who treated sex in a completely matter of fact way--it was part of being an adult and there was no shame involved in discussing it. As a result, even at the tender age of fifteen I approached romance novel sex with some skepticism. When I first started reading romance the sex scenes were the sort of vague, purple-prose laden encounters that involved a lot of shattering into a million tiny pieces, flying apart into the sun, or the shimmering of colors behind closed eyelids. Basically it sounded a lot like a stroke and/or an acid trip. And the orgasms were always simultaneous.

Now there are as many different types of sex scenes as there are romance novels. Variety is a good thing, usually. But for every delicious Victoria Dahl or Maisey Yates bearded cowboy love-scene, there's also a sex scene out there that is either improbable, anatomically impossible or horrifically painful to think about. Below are the Big Ten things I hate in sex scenes. Brace yourself. And, obviously, this review contains strong language and adult situations and all that shit.

1. Velvet Covered Steel

No, that's not a name for a Glam Metal band. It's the description of every hero's erection ever. It's not bad, I'm just sick of reading it

2. Sex On a Horse

What the actual fuck, people. I read this a lot in Old Skool romances. I actually remember reading a book where the horse was "frightened by the scent of their lovemaking." I wish I could remember which book, but I don't. Now, I agree that plenty of fondling or even a Handy-J could occur while on horseback, but actual intercourse? That is the most chill horse ever. Every horse I've ever ridden has waited for me to stop paying attention to try and brush me against a tree or something.

Plus how does that work? You'd have to a Russian gymnast and a trick rider to contort your body enough to stay on the horse and achieve penetration. And then you'd have to move. If I was a horse, I would not put up with that shit.

3. The Chinese Finger Trap

This is when the hero's peen is so goddamned big he has to work to get inside the heroine, then once he is in, the magical vadge doesn't want to let go. Example from The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning (which is actually a great book, BTW):

"Easy, Gabrielle. Relax," he gritted.

She tried, but she couldn't; it was instinctive to resist, and they waged a silent sexual battle for a few moments, where he hardly gained another inch. Her muscles were bearing down on him, resisting his steely intrusion.

He sucked in a hissing breath through clenched teeth. "Gabrielle, you're killing me; you have to let me in."

"I'm trying," she wailed.

I know there are fetishes about putting really large things inside vaginas, but I would think that in course of regular intercourse, if you have to fight to get the penis in, it's going to hurt. When I read the above passage and she instinctively resisted, I assumed that instinct was born of pain. If you need a shoehorn and a bottle of Wesson Oil to get down to business, then as a reader, I'm cringing.

4. Gushing, Weeping and Seeping

Anytime the heroine is doing one of these three things I assume she's got some sort of infection going on. Enough said.

5. Womb Clenching

The heroine is having SO MUCH FUN her womb is clenching. Now, to be fair, the uterus contracts during orgasm, so technically womb clenching is going on. But every time I read that her womb is clenching I think she's having a menstrual cramp or a contraction. I mean, "clench" has such negative connotations. You clench your fists, your teeth, your butt cheeks. Why is her womb clenching? Is it angry?

6. This Sentence:

His fingers drifted over [her breasts] again, gently scissoring her nipples. (The Greek's Million-Dollar Baby Bargain by Julia James).

You know what two words NEVER belong in a sentence together? Nipples and scissors.

7. Easy-A

And that A stands for anal. Anal is like the new virginity in contemporaries. The heroine has likely had sexual partners by the time she's met the hero, but she's never had anal. And he's going to go where no man has gone before. That's not the part that pisses me off.

The part that pisses me off is that the heroine has enjoyable anal sex without any preparation or, occasionally, lubricant. The hero magically gets his whole wang in there without causing her any discomfort or pain because he strokes her clit or something like that. Along with misplaced hymens, romance novel heroines are apparently born with very loose sphincter muscles.

8. The Third Arm

No, I'm not making a penis reference here. This is when the hero and heroine are getting it on missionary style and he reaches down to rub her clitoris while still keeping himself propped up over her and gently stroking her cheek.

Wait, what?

Or sometimes (especially in Old Skools) he wipes her tears away with both his thumbs while again, staying propped up on top of her.

Either he's got a friend hiding behind the curtains on the canopy bed, sneaking in to help a bro out or he's got the most amazing ab muscles ever. He can do a plank without his arms, motherfucker. Now that's a hero.

9. Three's a Crowd

I've read my fair share of menage scenes. I'm always amazed when the heroine has sex with two dudes for the first time and no one falls down, tips over, or slips out. Double penetration is apparently only slightly harder than anal for a newcomer (hur hur). And how is it that when she's with two different dudes (maybe even three) the dudes never touch.

I'm thinking specifically of the Maya Banks' Colter series. The Colter brothers share a woman, and engage in four-way sex with her, but they never ever touch because that would incest, I guess. C'mon. Someone is going to brush a thigh or suddenly get a handful of his brother's balls. It's just going to happen.

And my all time least favorite?

10. Cervical Penetration

The hero's wang is so amazingly big that the heroine can "feel him in her womb." Well I fucking hope not. For that to happen he'd have to push through the cervix and anyone who has had an IUD placed can tell you that you don't want anything pushing through your cervix. I'm breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Here's a passage from Passion by Lisa Valdez that will induce a PTSD flashback in anyone who has Mirena IUD:

On a low moan, her cunt began to draw. With the first strong, sucking pull, Mark bore down with all his strength, grinding the swollen head of his cock against the opening to her womb.

There are so many, many things wrong here.

1. It's a vagina, not an octopus. It's not drawing or sucking anything into it's maw.

2. Is the vagina moaning? Because grammatically, it is.

3. YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING PUSHING INTO THE OPENING OF YOUR WOMB. At this point the heroine should be screaming in pain or least saying "FUCK!" really loudly, and not in the good way.

Passion also contains the following passage:

He choked back a groan and bit into her pale shoulder as he thrust against the tight, tilting fingers of flesh that protected Passion's womb.

I've checked. There are no fingers growing out of my cervix. If there were, I'd be in the ER right now breathing into a paper bag. Also, are cervix fingers like chicken fingers?

So what about you? What drives you nuts about romance novel sex in the not-so-good way?

Knight and Day by Kitty French

4 Stars

“Listen, Kara…” Dylan topped up their champagne glasses in the silence that followed Lucien and Sophie’s disappearance. “I think we may have got off on the wrong foot, and for my part in that, I’m sorry.” He handed Kara her glass and picked up his own, turning his body towards hers on the bench as he settled back down. The top couple of buttons on his dark shirt were open, and Kara found her eyes following the tanned column of his neck down and wondering what he’d be like if he lost the shirt altogether. Balls. She closed her eyes and brought her glass to her lips. She didn’t want to think that. Don’t think it, don’t think it, don’t think it. Maybe if she said it three times in her head something magical would happen and he wouldn’t be so attractive when she reopened her eyes. Well, that didn’t work. In fact, if anything, he looked sexier still, because he was watching her, waiting for her. “Are you waiting for me to apologize too?” she asked, placing her drink down. “Do you feel like you need to?” He was half school teacher, half sex god, and for some reason Kara found herself ready to be thrown over his knee and chastised for her sassy mouth. Oh Lord. This was going to go bad. Champagne swilled in her veins, and there was no stopping the words from leaving her lips. “No. I actually feel like sliding over there and unbuttoning your shirt.” Dylan’s expression went from lazy amusement to round-eyed surprise in five seconds flat. Surprise laced with arousal. “Which is why you should leave right now,” Kara continued, aware that she’d said too much, as always. Her big mouth had got her into all sorts of trouble over the years, and it would seem that this was destined to be another of those times. She watched him swallow hard and wanted to trace her index finger down his Adam’s apple. He watched her watching him. “Well, that’s an unexpected development, English.” “You’re telling me,” she said. “Leave. Please?” Kara maneuvered herself off the bench and stood to allow him room to get out. “Should I finish my drink?” “Nope.” “I could take my shirt off?”
Excerpt from Knight and Day

This book was an unexpected surprise as I thought it would end with Knight and Stay.  I was completely happy with how the second book ended, and thought that was the end of my lovely Viking Lucian.  Then the best news ever, she was writing a third book.  When I found out it was Kara's story, that made it even better.  As with the previous installments there is tons of action, secrets, hot scenes, and tender moments in a sex club of all places.

Dylan is a down and out American living on his last dime in Ibiza. Luckily Lucian Knight knows someone worth his time when he sees them.  From the first moment he meets Kara, sparks fly.  I loved all the tension between them.  Unlike with Lucian and Soph it is Kara who seems to be in charge.

Kara has been stood up at the alter, and is sick and tired of lying men. She has decided to throw herself into her work, lucky for her Lucian hires Dylan.

Bromance- Who would have thought that Lucian would need a guy pal, but it works.  I love that they cover for each other, and he protects Dylan.

Lucian and Soph- You get to see more of their life together with the family they have built. The fact they were not just background or references in the book was nice.  There are lots of surprises and swoon worthy developments for these two in the third book

Steam factor is off the charts in this one.  The first two were hot, but this one takes it to a new level.  Well done Miss French, and keep them coming.

The Academy series by CL Stone

5 Star Series!!

I got totally hooked on this series by accident. I stumbled upon the first one because it was free and looked interesting.  The next three days are a blur of book hangover because I read all of them back to back. It is a true YA series, there is no action, but some serious tension going on.  I would recommend you check out the series, the fifth one is out on January 22nd.

Worth the Fight by Vi Keeland

Besides having a smoking hot cover, I need a little MMA romance in my life.  I can't move my legs from working out yesterday, and I'm stressed.  This one had lots of good reviews on Amazon so we will see.
